TO THIS
On the left -our old studio. Whilst on the right a view of our new studio control room. After almost twenty years producing the talking newspaper in the attic of the four hundred year old Old House Arts Center we have taken up residence in a complex of rooms under Brentwoods Town Hall in what was once the towns emergency control rooms.
Sorry about the quality of the photos, but we hope to update this page with some cleaned up versions shortly.

A general view of or state of the art studio which is air conditioned and fully meets BBC technical standards for audio insulation. Below is another view of the studio

The Brentwood Talking Newspaer has always laid great Stress on the quality of it's engineering and it's available resource's. It's our proud boast that in the twenty four years since we started.
We have never lost an issue to technical failure yet. For this reason almost total redundancy has been designed into the system. This means that should any item of equipment go down or off line, it can be taken out and replaced with a back up unit whilst the failed unit is under maintenance.

This is what the engineer sees, the faders on the left look after the five studio microphones and those on the right the various line inputs from tape, cassette MD or CD playback equipment. Switching also enables the mixer built by A.C. Partridge to our own design to control Studio Two and send and receive signals from the computer. This apart from using Audio editing software also features a specially written programme to time and play back edited material in sequence. Whilst full use is made of the MD recorder, Computer hard disc and record and CD playback for the production of our Sounds of Brentwood audio magazine, it's true to say that the weekly news cassette is mainly a more simple production to record, making use of one master and two cassette playback units. However all the studios facilities are availble if required

THE REST OF THE COMPLEX

Under the covers are our cassette copy train. The metal struture in the the right are what's left of the air filtering plant, giving a hint as to what the complex of rooms was designed for.

This is the main Office from where the copy team and the office crew dispatch our weekly cassettes.
AUDIO ON THE COMPUTER
As part of our search for the best audio quality available we have recently, with the aid of a donated computer started to lay down and edit audio material via a computer. At present this is only a toe into the water so our experimental system is fairly simple.

COMPUTER = Pentium One. running at 130 khz with
.......................... 33 ram, 3 gig hard disc. & audio card.
SOFTWEAR = Cool Edit and a Steve Caddy
.........................designed Jingle/ playout control.
LINE IN =..........Zero line level from Partridge mixer.
LINE OUT =.......Via patch bay into mixer
