BECOME A VOLUNTEER

The Brentwood and district talking newspaper welcomes volunteers. You'll be joining a friendly group who freely give their time to work in a state of the art studio to record and dispatch our weekly audio cassettes to almost 200 blind and partiality sighted residents of Brentwood and the surrounding area. Heres where we need help...

READERS
As the most popular activity for our volunteers, you might have to be placed on a short a waiting list. But when you join us you will be assigned to one of the four teams who once every four weeks have the task of reading items from the local newspaper onto the master cassette which will then be mass copied for our listeners. Recording takes place on a Thursday evening between 7.45 and around 9.30 pm in our Studio.
RECORDING ENGINEERS
As one of our recording enginners you will be assigned to one of our four teams. You will have the task of controlling the sound levels of the four readers and link presenter as they record our master audio cassettes. As a key member of the team, you can expect your duty to run from 7.15 to 9.45 on a Thursday evening.
DISTRIBUTION TEAM
One of the most vital roles our volunteers can play in our group. It's an weekly early 7am on a Friday morning, but the aim will be to copy almost 200 audio cassettes on a mass copy plant, insert cassettes into our special postal plastic wallets before insuring their delivery to Brentwoods Postal sorting office by 9.30am. If your worried about the early start, our present volunteers tell us they like the eary start as it means they can do the shops nice and early before the crowds.
AUDIO MAGAZINE TEAM
WE are always interested in volunteers able to help produce material for our audio magazine - SOUNDS OF BRENTWOOD. Unlike the weekly talking newspaper this is a 90 minute production that is issued around six times a year. Composed of local interviews and features, the aim of the magazine is to reflect various artistic and community activities in and around the area. Recordings for this production usually take place on a Wednesday morning from around 9am, but because on the nature of production at other times and days as well.
